Word of the Day: Zeitgeistastic

11 09 2007

No, dear Vanity Fare readers, I have not been swallowed by one of Hong Kong’s escalators (though I was riding one the other day and the hem of my pants got stuck; I panicked for a moment – “I’m going to get sucked under! The urban legend is true!” – before I pulled the material free). I’ve been out and about, sampling some of the city’s culinary delights (and by “delights” I mean the cheapest noodles and dumplings I can find). And art! I’ve been seeing art! At shopping malls! Erm… Yes, like shredded pork floss and fluffy buns, those two things do go together (I actually don’t mind pork floss; as a bun filler, however, it’s a bit dry and the experience of eating one is a lot like the dry-choking I used to experience while competing in soda cracker-whistling contests as a kid).

Fortunately, Carrie Chau’s exhibit at Times Square (Causeway Bay MTR station) induces neither choking nor gagging.

My verdict? Cutesy, clever, HK zeitgeistastic.
